Wine Tourism or Grape Growing - Food Processing (Certificate III)

Our Wine Tourism course provides skills in promoting and selling wine and spirits to customers, conducting winery tours and serving food & beverages. The Grape Growing course teaches you all about grape growing - including operating vineyard equipment, irrigation, soil conditions, vine training & pruning and food quality & safety practices. The colleges have vineyards on campus and work in partnership with local wineries to ensure the students are provided with extensive practical training, experience and exposure to all areas of the wine industry.

In Perth - Midland offers both courses. In regional W.A. - Albany offers the Grape Growing course.

Qualifications Available in this Program (depending on your entry & exit points)

  • Certificate III in Food Processing (Wine Tourism) OR
  • Certificate III in Food Processing (Grape Growing)

General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites

Entry into these courses requires the equivalent of Australian Year 10 with passes in English, Maths & Science.


What You'll Learn in Each Course

The wine tourism course provides skills in promoting wine to customers, evaluating wines, operating a bar and coordinating winery promotional activities.

The grape growing course teaches you about irrigation, soil conditions, vine growing, food quality, safety practices and operating vineyard equipment.


Work Experience, Activities & Events

In the Wine Tourism course, students spend time in local wineries so they can gain hands-on industry exposure and experience. In the Grape Growing course, students spend time on a real working vineyard so they can obtain the practical hands-on training they need to launch a successful career in the industry. The college also advises students on obtaining part-time employment in the industry while they are studying.


Career Outcomes

Graduates of the wine tourism course can gain employment with wineries coordinating their promotional campaigns and events. Graduates of the grape growing course will gain employment as vineyard supervisors and wine makers.


Further Study & University Options

Grape Growing graduates can apply for Bachelor of Science (Viticulture or Wine Science) or Associate Degree programs - these are offered at both Curtin University and the University of Western Australia.
