Website Design & Development (Certificate IV to Diploma)

This course equips students with the skills to design and construct websites and create the look and feel of a site. Training includes creating and editing graphics, designing layouts and the technical web languages - HTML, CSS, etc.

Students will have access to computer labs during class but access to their own personal computer at home is highly recommended.

  • Diploma of Information Technology - Website Development
General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites

Entry into the Certificate IV requires the equivalent of Australian Year 12 with passes in English and Maths or completion of the Cert III in Information Technology - Applications.



What You'll Learn in Each Course

The Certificate IV involves designing and constructing web pages and creating the look and feel of the site. The design objective is to create in consultation with the client, the flow or story of the website and how information will be displayed. From a technical perspective, designers will make use of graphical knowledge, knowledge of specific technologies and various platforms, creative flair and ability to put down an image, layout and design skills, technical knowledge of hardware, software and specific web languages.

The Diploma provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent as a senior ICT professional with responsibilities spanning design, development, website architecture, site performance, database integration through to implementation and acceptance testing.


Additional College-Specific Information

Students studying this course at East Perth are placed in a Web Development Firm which mirrors a real working environment. Students work with real clients, on real websites, created for a real client needs and will be working with the latest industry standard software including Macromedia products and the latest information from industry in regards to security issues on the Web.


Career Outcomes

Depending on the stage of completion, graduates can obtain jobs as an e-commerce Developer/Analyst, WAP Designer/Developer, Web Architect, Web Development Manager or Web Master.
