Visual Art and Craft (Certificate III - Advanced Diploma)
Program Details Provides students with the skills and knowledge to design and produce art in a range of areas including painting, print media, ceramics, sculpture adn digital art. Studio projects will give scope for individual development and investigation, while core units in art theory, history and drawing offer a broader cultural context.

Program Components & Pathway
This program can include multiple courses and different entry and exit points providing students the flexibility to begin at the most suitable stage and continue studying till they reach their desired outcome.
General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites
Entry into the Certificate III requires the equivalent of Australian Year 10 with passes in English. Entry into the Cert IV - Advanced Diploma requires the equivalent of Australian Year 12 with passes in English or completion of the Cert III.
What You'll Learn in Each Course
The Certificate III provides students with the practical skills and knowledge to create two and three dimensional forms in a variety of visual art areas. Students learn to visualise, develop and present ideas and images, to discuss the visual arts analytically and appreciatively and to constructively evaluate their own work and that of others.
The Certificate IV provides students with the practical skills and knowledge to design and produce art in a range of areas including painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, printmaking and electronic art. Students develop studio skills through direct investigation and experimentation of techniques and materials, research and observation, experimentation and evaluation.
The Diploma provides students with advanced skills in visual art/or craft, with the potential to focus on selected studio areas such as painting, print media, ceramics, sculpture and electronic art. Students undertake studio based projects giving them scope for individual development and investigation. Instruction is provided in painting, print media, ceramics, sculpture and electronic art, with additional skills and knowledge in drawing, art theory and history.
The Advanced Diploma provides students with the practical skills and knowledge required for contemporary professional practices in the visual arts. They will have the opportunity to specialise in one of the following studio areas: painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking and digital art. Students also learn about visual culture and how to develop studio projects that integrate theory with practice, and develop skills which assist in preparing them for the realities of a studio practice.
Career Outcomes
Depending on the stage of completion, graduates can gain employment as an assistant in visual arts and crafts, freelance visual artist/craftsperson, work in an arts co-operative, or become employed as an artist or illustrator.
Further Study & University Options
Studies at TAFE WA can be continued through to the Advanced Diploma level (see the Study Pathway diagram above). Successful completion of the Advanced Diploma of Art & Design (Fine Art) will allow guaranteed entry to the Bachelor of Arts at Curtin University in W.A. Students will receive around 300 credits at Curtin (equivalent to around 12 months of the Bachelor degree).
