University of Tasmania
The idea of partnership characterises the way we function at the University of Tasmania.
Our primary partnership is between staff and students who work cooperatively in the areas of core business for the University: achieving excellence in teaching and learning and research. UTAS present, one of the widest range of courses in Australia (58 undergraduate courses) yet is small enough (just over 12 000 students) to provide an surroundings where each student can enter into a partnership with staff to succeed their goals.
About Us
The University of Tasmania was officially established on 1st January 1890, by an Act of the Colony's Parliament and was only the fourth university to be established in nineteenth-century Australia. The University was originally located on the Domain in Hobart. As the University developed, it outgrew its original place and in the early 1940's began to transfer its departments to Sandy Bay, which became the new home for the institution.Courses

Location
Tasmania is an island and state of the same name. It is placed 240 kilometres south of the eastern side of the continent, being divided from it by Bass Strait. The state of Tasmania contains the island of Tasmania, and other surrounding islands. Tasmania has an ca. population of 493,300 as of June 2007 and an area of 68,401 square kilometres (26,410 sq mi).Tasmania furthers itself as the Natural State and the "Island of Inspiration" owing to its great in size, and relatively unspoiled natural environment. Almost 37% of Tasmania is in reserves, National Parks and World Heritage Sites. The island is 364 kilometres long from the northernmost point to the southernmost point, and 306 kilometres from west to east.
The main and largest city is Hobart, which encompasses the local government areas of City of Hobart, City of Glenorchy and City of Clarence. Other major total number of people living in an area centres contain Launceston in the north, and Devonport and Burnie in the northwest.
Accommodation
Hobart campus1. Residential Colleges Also known as hostel or dormitory type accommodation (Jane Franklin Hall, Christ College, John Fisher College).
2. Shared houses in TUU housing scheme. Owned by the University Union.
3. University apartments On campus.
4. Private houses shared with other students.
Launceston campus
1. On-campus apartment style accommodation (Leprena, Kerslake).
2. Dormitory style accommodation (Clarence House)
3. Private houses, usually close to campus.
