Tourism - Operations Management (Cert III to Diploma)

Program Details  
This course trains students to supervise operations within the travel industry. Students learn skills to be able to provide travel information and advice, process bookings and put together travel products and services into tour packages. Subjects covered include skills in coaching and managing staff, marketing, managing projects, finance and budgeting, implementing and monitoring business systems and tourism law. The qualification includes a wide spectrum of management related skills, concentrating on the 'operational' side of the tourism industry.

Program Components & Pathway

This program can include multiple courses and different entry and exit points providing students the flexibility to begin at the most suitable stage and continue studying till they reach their desired outcome.


General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites

Entry at Diploma level requires the equivalent of Australian Year 12 with passes in English; however, the course length is 18 months for direct entry. Or you can enter by completing the Certificate III in Tourism - either the Tour Wholesaling or International Retail Travel Sales stream. Entry at the Certificate III level requires the equivalent of Australian Year 10 with passes in English & Maths; however, the Diploma will only take 12 months after completion of the Cert III.


Career Outcomes

Depending on the specialisation at Cert III level, graduates can gain employment as a domestic/international travel consultant, wholesale operations consultant, reservations sales agent, inbound tour coordinator, a visitor information officer, tour guide, administrative staff at a theme park, and with suitable experience a supervisor/manager in these areas. Graduates, with experience, will be able to seek employment as an Operations Manager, Sales Executive, Projects Co-ordinator, Visitor Information Centre Manager, as well as within the Human Resources area.
