About Us
Motivated by success earned from language programs, from 1988 Holmes has moved steadily towards active involvement with the higher education sector. Holmes offers a pathway of the diploma courses with degree courses at other providers of higher education in Australia. The Year 11 Program in Melbourne
The Year 11 Program available in Melbourne (called " 11 Plus @ Holmes ") is an intensive program covering semester units drawn from three Victorian Certificates- VCE, VCAL and VET Business Certificate. It is a normal VCE Year 11 business program PLUS other skill-based units that, in total, qualify a student for the new Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning Senior - an equivalent Year 12 certificate of education.
VCE Units cover the following subjects - English (ESL), Mathematics, Accounting, Economics, Information Technology, and Business Management. The Business Management units are Year 12 standard as this can increase a student's entry score (ENTER) for degree programs. The Units, additional to the VCE Units, are Senior Units concerned with learning skills in Personal Development (such as project planning, teamwork, leadership), in Business Communications (such as creating word-processed documents and creating spreadsheets and electronic presentations), and in Literacy (Reading and Writing).
The 11 Plus @ Holmes Program provides students with the option of continuing with VCE in Year 12, obtaining an ENTER score and using the score to apply for entry to higher education degree programs.
Alternatively, as the Program is designed to prepare students for tertiary studies (business diplomas or degree) at the Holmes Institute, a student may proceed directly into Holmes Institute Diploma or Degree programs. A student satisfactorily completing 11 Plus @ Holmes may enter a one-year Holmes Institute Business Diploma (specialising in Management, Marketing, International Trade, Accounting, Information Technology, Travel and Tourism, Hotel Management/Hospitality, or Business Administration) and then proceed to the second year of the Holmes Institute Bachelor of Business Degree.
A student, who satisfactorily completes 11 Plus @ Holmes and who obtains at least 65% in semester examinations for all VCE Units undertaken, may enrol in the first year of the Holmes Institute Bachelor of Business Degree (specialising in Management, Marketing or International Business). Australian residents may apply for FEE-HELP from the Australian Government for this Degree program.
