What You'll Learn in Each Course

The Certificate IV provides students with the basic practical skills and knowledge to assist in the collection of spatial data related to the set out and monitoring of engineering structures and mining operations. They will learn about the operation of surveying equipment and software, including GPS, and the use of this equipment to carry out basic survey projects and the processing of survey data to produce computer aided plans.

The Diploma provides students with the practical skills and knowledge to carry out the role of a surveyor involved in the collection of spatial data related to the set out and monitoring of engineering structures, roads, railways and mining operations. Students will improve their skills in the operation of sophisticated surveying equipment and software, including GPS, and the use of this equipment to carry out complex survey projects, including open pit mine operations and the processing of survey data to produce computer aided engineering drawings and mine plans.

The Advanced Diploma provides the practical skills and knowledge to carry out the role of a mine/engineering surveyor involved in the collection and analysis of spatial data related to the set out and monitoring of complex engineering structures, roads, railways and surface and underground mining operations. The Advanced Diploma satisfies the academic requirements for membership of the Spatial Sciences Institute (Engineering and Mining Commission).

Career Outcomes

Depending on the stage of completion, graduates can work survey assistant or technician, survey instrument hand, cartographic assistant, mapping technician or survey draftsperson. Successful completion of the Advanced Diploma satisfies the academic requirement for registration as an Authorised Mine Surveyor.

Further Study & University Options
