Nursing & Health Science Foundations (Certificate IV to Diploma)Provides the education and training necessary to become an enrolled nurse. A large component of the course is supervised clinical practice in hospitals, nursing homes and health care agencies. The course is taught by a team of registered nurses with considerable teaching and learning experience.

General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites English Proficiency Needed: For entry, the Certificate IV requires an IELTS level of 6.0 and the Diploma an IELTS level of 6.5. Direct entry into the Diploma requires the equivalent of Australian Year 12 with passes in English, Human Biology or Biology and Discrete Maths. Alternatively, students can enter the Certificate IV in Health Science Foundations with the equivalent of Australian Year 11 with passes in English, Human Biology or Biology and General Maths; or by completing the Cert III in Aged Care Work. Special Requirements For the Diploma: > Students are required to have a medical clearance (including Hepatitis B vaccination and tuberculosis clearance) and a Federal Police Clearance. > A current Senior First Aid Certificate and Federal Police Clearance is required prior to work placement and employment. Further details on these requirements will be provided at the College when you start. What You'll Learn in Each Course The Certificate IV provides students with the academic requirements to enter into the Diploma of Enrolled Nursing at TAFE WA or the Bachelor of Science - Nursing (General) at Curtin University, Edith Cowan University and Murdoch University. It is designed for students who have not satisfied the necessary secondary education requirements to enter directly into these Nursing programs. This course can also enhance the educational and training prospects for students wanting to train as either an Enrolled or Registered Nurse. Education & Training International can package this course with one of the above Universities and can provide the appropriate offer letters. The Diploma provides the education and training necessary to achieve competency in the wide range of skills required for the role of an Enrolled Nurse. Biology, health, legal and ethical issues and behavioural and nursing sciences provide the underpinning knowledge for clinical practice. The Diploma course is taught by a team of Registered Nurses with considerable teaching and clinical experience. Work Experience, Activities & Events A practical placement is arranged by the College as part of the Cert IV. For the Diploma, a large component of the course is supervised clinical practice in hospitals, nursing homes and health care agencies throughout the metropolitan area. The type of agencies in which students may be placed include private and government sector organisations and involves working directly with clients and professionals of these agencies. Students should also note that clinical placements might be arranged for any shift on any day. Career Outcomes Graduates from the Diploma of Enrolled Nursing are eligible to apply for registration with the Nurses Board of Western Australia as an Enrolled Nurse (Comprehensive). The Nurses Board of WA require an IELTS score of 7 (Academic) in order to grant registration. Currently, employment prospects are available in aged, acute, restorative, mental health and community care. Further Study & University Options Graduates of the Cert IV in Health Science Foundations can either continue on to the Diploma of Enrolled Nursing or gain entry into Bachelor of Science - Nursing degrees at Curtin, Edith Cowan and Murdoch universities in W.A. Graduates of the Diploma are eligible to apply for degree programs in Registered Nursing at Australian universities.
