Networking (Certificate III - Diploma)Provides the students with the skills and knowledge to administer and maintain a computer environment. Students learn to install and administer a computer network, configure a network, diagnose and fix network problems, automate network processes, manage network security, develop internet/intranet gateways and undertake trouble shooting and upgrading.

General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites Entry into the Certificate III requires the equivalent of Australian Year 11 with passes in English and Maths or completion of the Cert II in Information Technology. What You'll Learn in Each Course The Certificate III provides students with the practical skills and knowledge to assist in the administration and maintenance of the user's computer environment. Students learn to install and administer a computer network, configure a network, diagnose and action network problems and apply occupational health and safety procedures. The Certificate IV further develops the practical skills and knowledge in the installation and management of simple networks. Students continue to learn skills in installation, configuration, monitoring and administration of a network, automating network processes, network security. Students also learn about effective communication, documentation and general business skills. The Diploma provides students with the practical skills and knowledge to assess client network requirements, design the system infrastructure and implement the design plan. Students learn skills in internet/intranet, gateways, bridges/switches and installation/configuration of routers and networks, project management and the ongoing management of networks including security, maintenance, trouble shooting and upgrading. Career Outcomes Depending on the stage of completion, graduates can gain employment as an e-Security Analyst/Manager, Integration Centre Specialist, Intranet Engineer, Network Engineer or Systems Engineer. Further Study & University Options Graduates of the Diploma at West Coast TAFE (Joondalup) can enter the Bachelor of Science (Digital Media) or Bachelor of Communications (Interactive Multimedia or Film & Video or Photo media or Media Studies or Advertising or Journalism or Public Relations or Mass Communication) or Bachelor of Computer Technology at Edith Cowan University (ECU) with credit of up to 8 units. The exact credit will depend on the units taken at TAFE and the ECU degree chosen. Graduates of the Diploma at Challenger TAFE (Fremantle e-Tech) can gain up to one year of credit into the Bachelor of Information & Communications Technology at the University of Notre Dame. They can also enter the Bachelor of Applied IT or Bachelor of Science (Computer Science or Internet Computing or Information Systems Development or Multimedia Information Systems or Internetworking & Security or Games Technology) at Murdoch University with up to 24 credits. West Coast TAFE (Joondalup) graduates can gain up to 12 months credit at Edith Cowan University into the Bachelor of Business Information Processing or Bachelor of Science – Computer Science or Bachelor of Science – Network Technology. Graduates of other Colleges may be able to continue in further studies at university in related subjects. Please contact your specific university of interest for more details on entry.
