Master of Engineering Technology (Civil Engineering)Duration (International) 1.5 years Assessment (Internat.) Assignments, design problems, examinations and thesis. Outline This is a design orientated course that provides students with the knowledge and skills that are necessary to obtain employment as an engineer and to be admitted as a Member with Engineers Australia. The course also serves as a preparation for further graduate studies in technology, business administration and other areas. Specifically the course provides students with advanced studies in Civil Engineering. Career Opportunities A Civil Engineering graduate will have developed technical skills together with a knowledge and appreciation of the environment, sustainable development, social and political aspects that impact upon the work of the civil engineer. Graduates may be employed with private consultants, contracting companies, mining and processing industries or with Federal, State and Local Government organisations. There are significant opportunities for employment both in Australia and in South-East Asia and throughout the rest of the world. RPL and Credit Transfer International students wishing to apply for RPL and Credit Transfer are required to provide syllabus of previous study undertaken at time of applying for course. Not all courses offer RPL and Credit Transfer. Contact the International Student Programs office at international@ballarat.edu.au Objectives A student who successfully completes the course should be able to demonstrate: - basic knowledge and skill in analysis; - a knowledge of the branch of engineering chosen as their major study of sufficient depth for the student to gain employment as an engineering technologist within their field of specialisation; - an ability to analyse and propose solutions to technical problems in accordance with established practices and procedures; - a high degree of written and oral communication skills; - computer literacy; - a capacity to adapt to changing circumstances and master new techniques; - an aptitude to undertake further learning and study; - a basic understanding of the operation of the industrial and social environments in which they will function; - eligibility for admission as a Member of the Institution of Engineers Australia; and - a knowledge of the principal journals and other major information sources relevant to their field of specialisation, and an ability to comprehend and utilise data from these sources. Requirements To qualify for the Master of Engineering Technology degree a student must complete the specified units and structural requirements of the Engineering course as specified.
