Outline 

 

The Master of Education by Research degree is a one and a half years (eighteen months) full-time, or three years part-time course, which sees candidates working with a principal supervisor, and possibly co-supervisor, for the period of enrolment. The degree is awarded on the basis of an externally examined research thesis (40,000 words), developed over the period of study. The School of Education maintains strong links with the regional education community, which offers a rich field for research opportunities.
 
Career Opportunities 

 

With teaching qualifications, completion of this course will enable you to apply for promotions in schools, building on your research experiences. The opportunity also exists for you to seek employment in school systems in the areas of administration, policy development and research. The degree is often a prerequisite for entry to a PhD or EdD.
 
RPL and Credit Transfer 

 

International students wishing to apply for RPL and Credit Transfer are required to provide syllabus of previous study undertaken at time of applying for course. Not all courses offer RPL and Credit Transfer. Contact the International Student Programs office at international@ballarat.edu.au

- Effectively communicate/report research findings to a range of difference audiences
- Demonstrate intellectual and professional integrity
- Display a range of generic skills applicable to future research and employment
 
Requirements 

 

The degree is awarded on the basis of an externally examined thesis of approximately 40,000 words. The thesis must demonstrate a command of the knowledge and skills pertinent to the area of investigation; an appreciation of the relationship of your own work with that of others; a capacity to develop theory; a command of the research methodology adopted; and an ability to communicate in an academic context.
