Program Details This course is designed for students who enjoy working on board seagoing ships in the fishing or merchant marine industry and wish to further their skills. This program can include multiple courses and different entry and exit points providing students the flexibility to begin at the most suitable stage and continue studying till they reach their desired outcome.
General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites
Direct entry to the Diploma requires the equivalent of Australian Year 12 with passes in English & Science. Or you can enter by completing the Cert II in Seafood Industry - Fishing Operations, Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation - Marine Tourism or Certificate III in Seafood Industry - Acquaculture.
About the Maritime Training Centre
The Maritime Training Centre is situated in the heart of Western Australia’s major port of Fremantle and is equipped with the latest facilities including ship & training simulators, an aquaculture hatchery and a fleet of six vessels including the 18-metre training vessel “Maritime Image”. The Centre’s proximity to the waterfront, shipbuilding and repair facilities, cargo operations and Western Australian shipping companies has contributed to its reputation as one of the most innovative and industry-relevant maritime training facilities in Australia.
Career Outcomes
Graduates of the Diploma can find employment in the fishing industry in areas such as fisheries management, commercial fishing or related marine industries.
Further Study & University Options
Graduates of the Diploma will be able to enter the Marine Science degree at Murdoch university. Credit in the degree at Murdoch is available.
