About Us

Australian Catholic University (ACU National) was created in 1991 through the union of four Catholic tertiary institutions with experience and conventions going back to the mid-1800s. ACU National is a public University, established by the Australian government. The degrees are equivalent to those of other public institutions in Australia and are recognised world-wide.

  • Minimum IELTS 5.0
  • Students should ideally be no more than 0.5 IELTS band under their Diploma/Degree entry score.

Course Aim

IELTS Test Preparation aims to prepare students to take the Academic Module of the IELTS Test or ACU English Test.  It focuses on giving students a clear understanding of the IELTS Test and the skills and strategies they need to be successful.
The course is organised around a series of topics that match those commonly found in the IELTS Test, such as technology, society and the environment.

IELTS Test Preparation will develop:

  • Your confidence and fluency on a wide variety of topics.
  • Your ability to quickly and accurately explain information and express opinions.
  • Your listening skills to cope with a range of situations.
  • The skills you will need to quickly read and comprehend complex articles.

Students successfully completing the 12-week IELTS Test Preparation program are expected to improve their overall IELTS level by at least 0.5 band.  Students from the IELTS Test Preparation program can sit the ACU English Test at the end of the course.

ACU English Test

Students who study an English Language Program with us for at least four weeks and have an offer for further study at ACU National can apply to take the ACU English Test as an alternative to the IELTS Test.

The test is offered twice a year, in July and December/January. It is significantly cheaper than sitting the IELTS Test, and has a similar format.

Please note: The ACU English Test can only be used to meet the English entry requirements for diploma and degree programs at ACU National. It is not accepted for entry to courses at other universities or for visa purposes.
