Horticulture - Landscape (Certificate II to Diploma)
Program Details This course is designed to provide students with a wide range of theoretical and practical horticultural skills in landscape gardening. Training is provided in the areas of gardening, nursery, pests, weeds, irrigation, soils, machinery, chemicals, landscape gardenting, health and safety. This qualification requires a high level of physical participation in gardening, nursery and landscaping activities. There is a huge demand for skills in horticulture and landscaping, which means that students can gain plenty of part-time work in the industry while they are studying.
Qualifications Available in this Program (depending on your entry & exit points)
- Certificate II in Horticulture - Landscape
- Certificate III in Horticulture - Landscape
- Certificate IV in Horticulture
- Diploma of Horticulture
Program Components & Pathway
This program can include multiple courses and different entry and exit points providing students the flexibility to begin at the most suitable stage and continue studying till they reach their desired outcome.
General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites
All entry into this program is at the Certificate II level. This requires the equivalent of Australian Year 10 with passes in English, Maths & Science.
What You'll Learn in Each Course
These courses provides a wide range of practical skills to equip students for employment in the landscape sector of the horticultural industry. Training is provided in the areas of hard landscaping, pests, diseases and weeds, plant knowledge, horticultural machinery use, chemical use and horticultural safety. Students will also create brick, block, cement, stone and timber structures and install irrigation systems.
Additional College-Specific Information
At Challenger TAFE (Murdoch), the courses incorporate visits to Kings Park Botanical Gardens, and work placements with relevant employers.
Career Outcomes
Graduates can gain employment primarily in the landscape industry or apply their horticultural skills in jobs at parks and gardens, nurseries, local government and sporting clubs.
Further Study & University Options
Studies at TAFE WA can be continued through to the Diploma of Horticulture (see pathway diagram above).
