Graduate Diploma of Water Resources Management

DURATION: 2 years full time

ENTRY POINTS: February/July

LOCATION: Rockhampton

Water Resources Management is available to study at CQUnivertisty at the Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Masters level and will enable you to expand your knowledge and skills as well as your employability in the water resources industry both in Australia and overseas.  The programs are delivered as part of the International Centre of Excellence in Water Resources Management (ICE WaRM) in conjunction with a number of other Australian universities including Deakin University, Flinders University, the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia.  The programs offer a wide variety of specialised coursework and study options for you to choose from, so you can create personalised learning that meets your individual needs.

The development of these programs has been in response to a strong demand from industry. The program has been designed with a student-centric approach to education, using teaching methodologies that encourage access and flexibility of delivery for a program offered across states. The program provides you with an opportunity to increase your breadth and depth of knowledge and application of skills in the area of water resources management.  The programs have been designed to promote the internationalisation of Australia's leading water resources management education and make a positive impact on the social, cultural and economic well-being of society.

What am I studying?

The Graduate Diploma of Water Resources Management is designed to provide you with an opportunity to build on the knowledge gained from completion of the Graduate Certificate.  The wide variety of specialised coursework and study options enables you to create a program of study that meets your individual needs and areas of interest. You will study an additional four courses as elective units allowing you to design the program to suit your interests and desired career outcomes. You may also be required to participate in a residential school depending upon the courses selected. Residential schools provide an opportunity for you to network with your fellow students and lecturers as well as gain hands-on practical experience in the area of study. Completion of the Graduate Diploma in Water Resources is required for progression into the Masters program.

You must complete a CQUniversity Graduate Certificate in Water Resources Management or Australian equivalent to be eligible for entry into this program

Program Structure

You are required to complete a total of eight courses:

  •  Four core courses (which are completed as part of the Graduate Certificate)
  •  Four electives from the following streams:
    • Ecosystem and catchment management
    • Irrigation
    • Groundwater hydrology/hydrogeology
    • Management of water infrastructure
    • Water planning
    • Water quality and treatment.
