Graduate Diploma of Financial Management

The Graduate Diploma of Financial Management provides graduates with the knowledge and analytical skills to address the financial management and decision-making aspects of an organisation.  This program provides a particular career focus on financial market analysis, banking, investment houses, government departments and financial brokering.

The program can be completed in one year of full-time study, making it ideal if you are looking at a career change or promotion.  It is designed to suit graduates who are working predominantly in the making of financial decisions or who are charged with designing and incorporating systems which support the implementation of such decisions.

Throughout the program you will gain an understanding of the uses and limitations of accounting information, familiarity with basic economic and legal concepts essential for the middle to upper levels of management and an understanding of financing and investment.

You will study five compulsory courses including  Systems Management Overview, Economics for Business, Organisational Finance, Accounting Information for Decision Making and Financial Marketing Analysis.  You will also have the opportunity to choose one elective course from a range of business areas.

The Graduate Diploma is a pathway to the Master of Financial Management.

Prerequisites

Entry requirements for the Graduate Diploma of Financial Management include:

An undergraduate degree in accounting or finance or instructor approval. For the purposes of admission into this program, an undergraduate degree in accounting of finance is considered to be any of the following:

• An undergraduate degree from an Australian university that is accredited with accounting bodies.
• An undergraduate degree from an Australian university in the area of accounting or finance or a generic degree with a major in accounting or finance, made up of a minimum of 50% content in the areas of accounting and finance.
• An overseas qualification equivalent to an Australian bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 50% content in the areas of accounting and finance.
• An Australian postgraduate coursework degree or overseas equivalent in the area of accounting or finance.

Career Opportunities

If you are looking for a career working within international monetary markets and systems or providing risk analysis, foreign exchange risk management, multinational working capital management or foreign investment analysis, this program provides the tools and knowledge to get you there.  Particular career focus areas are financial market analysis, banking, investment houses, government departments and financial brokering.

Program Structure

You are required to complete 6 courses (48 unit points of credit) to graduate with the Graduate Diploma of Financial Management.

These courses include:

• 5 core courses; and
• 1 elective coursechosen from specified postgraduate courses from the Faculty of Arts, Business, Informatics and Education, provided prerequisites have been met.
