Graduate Diploma of Education (Primary)Duration (International) 1.25 Assessment (Internat.) N/A Outline The Graduate Diploma of Education (Primary) is a pre-service teacher education degree that is offered between February to November each year. The course structure includes 10 compulsory units of education, 2 units of professional studies and 60 days of primary school experience. The student intake includes recent graduates, parents returning from family care to the workforce, people seeking a mid career change and international students. Applicants are invited to apply any time during the year for commencement in the following year. Career Opportunities The course is designed to prepare pre-service teachers to become teachers at the primary level. RPL and Credit Transfer International students wishing to apply for RPL and Credit Transfer are required to provide syllabus of previous study undertaken at time of applying for course. Not all courses offer RPL and Credit Transfer. Contact the International Student Programs office at international@ballarat.edu.au Objectives Graduates of this course can expect to be able to: •pursue a teaching career in a rural, regional, metropolitan, interstate or international school. •function effectively in classrooms that are ethnically and culturally diverse •communicate effectively and relate ethically in a variety of professional and community settings. •make sustained contributions to your school and local communities as a life-long learner and teacher-researcher; •reflect effectively on your teaching before, during, and after the experience in order to improve student learning outcomes. •create positive classroom climates that promote inclusion sharing, caring, encouragement of participation, and high expectations for each and every learner. Requirements The course comprises 10 compulsory units of education and professional studies in the following Domains of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards: English; Mathematics; Health and Physical Education; The Arts; Humanities; Science; and Design, Creativity and Technology. There are no electives. Students complete a minimum of 50 days of supervised primary school experience and 7 days concurrent schools experience. Professional development activities, including Tribes TLC © and ESL teaching methods will be held throughout the year.Pre-service teachers are expected to participate in at least 16 hours of formal contact and a minimum of four hours of independent study each week throughout the academic year.
