About this Course
This program grew out of a United Nations imperative to provide training for communities so that they could proactively work to reduce the effects of disasters. Students from all around the world, working in both paid and voluntary capacities, are able to network online to add another dimension to the learning and development outcomes of this program. Early exit points are also available at both the Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma levels.

 

Career Opportunities 

The program is aimed at those who work (or wish to work) in emergency services or humanitarian organisations, including aid workers in developing countries, community development workers employed in non-profit organisations and government departments anywhere in the world.

Duration

2 or 3 sessions over 8 or 12 months (part-time options available to Australian students)

Sydney CBD (Close to Darling Harbour, University of Technology Sydney, Chinatown, and five minutes walk from Sydney Central Station) 

Admission Criteria
For GDCD, the applicant must have;
University Degree or equivalent
-Academic IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band; or
-TOEFL 550 with no less than 4.5 in the Test of Written English;

Assessment Methods
Assessment methods include presentations, reports and formal written exams.

Teaching Methods
Each coursework unit typically involves one 3-hour lecture per week

Major Area of Study

You will gain a greater understanding of the principles of working with communities and how these impact on the ethical consequences of disasters. The program will also enhance your skills and ability to help communities cope with major emergencies and disasters.
