General English

At Milner College, there are 8 levels of Intensive General English:

-Beginners

-Elementary

-Pre-Intermediate

-Intermediate

-Post-Intermediate

-Upper-Intermediate

-Pre-Advanced

-Advanced.

On the first day of their course, students sit a written and speaking test after which they are placed in a class appropriate to their level. Once a month, students' levels are re-assessed by their teacher. If a student is unhappy in their class, it is easy to change. A class change takes one day to process.

A student can start an Intensive General English course on any Monday he/she chooses, (providing it is not a public holiday). Most students choose to start on one of the major course intake dates, listed in the section titled "Fees & Starting Dates".

General English courses can be done either part-time or full-time. Part-time courses run from 8.45am - 11.45am and full-time courses from 8.45am - 3.00pm. Milner's minimum course length is 2 weeks.

Milner College's teaching methodology combines traditional methods with more recent approaches, ensuring students' language development. Morning classes focus on grammatical areas, as well as developing learners' macro skills. Afternoon classes focus on communicative competence and fluency.
