AMI Education is committed to the principles of Access and Equity. Operationally, this means that our policies and approaches ensure that our programmes are responsive to the diverse needs of all clients and are available to everyone on an equal basis including people with disabilities, people from non-English speaking backgrounds, indigenous Australians, rural and remote learners and people re-entering training after a career break.

General English

This is the structure of a typical full time class for General English at AMI Education.

Part time morning classes are available for students interested in more academic English while afternoon conversation classes are run for those wishing to improve their speaking skills.

  • Vocabulary builder- leads learners into the day's topic
  • Reading- newspapers, textbooks, advertisements, internet
  • Writing- graph analysis, diaries, reports, team writing, poetry, instructions, essays, running dictation
  • Listening- Including tapes, CDs, television, guest speakers
  • Speaking- focus on pronunciation/intonation/gesture & body language
  • Grammar- ties up with writing exercises
  • Excursion- often small trips to galleries, museums, places of interest with language point focus
  • Focus on conversation, including: role-plays, group discussions, Interviews, surveys, board games and text based activities
