Doctor of PhilosophyDuration (International) 3.5 years Assessment (Internat.) Assignments, essays, class presentations, laboratory work, exams. Outline This PhD program is a three-year full-time course, or the equivalent in part-time study, which will see you working with a principal supervisor (and possibly co-supervisor) appointed by the Research and Higher Degrees Committee on the recommendation of the School. The degree is awarded on the basis of an externally examined thesis of approximately 100,000 words that makes a substantial contribution to knowledge and demonstrates an understanding of the relationship of the investigations undertaken to a wider field of knowledge. In most cases the thesis will be a text reporting research undertaken by the candidate. Areas of research strength in which supervision is available in the School of Information Technology and Mathematical Sciences include: - Applied optimization - Information security - Distributed simulation - Knowledge management - Computer science education Career Opportunities Depending on the area of study completed, graduates of this course would expect to be employed in the higher education sector. It is also possible that opportunities in government and Commercial Research Centres may be open to you. RPL and Credit Transfer International students wishing to apply for RPL and Credit Transfer are required to provide syllabus of previous study undertaken at time of applying for course. Not all courses offer RPL and Credit Transfer.
