Doctor of Information TechnologyDuration (International) 3.5 years Assessment (Internat.) Assignments, essays, class presentations, laboratory work, exams. Outline Although the Doctor of Information Technology is a research higher degree, it involves a substantial course-work component as well as an emphasis on the transformation of professional practice to knowledge that adds to the body of knowledge in the area. The program consists of a combination of research projects and advanced study units. The professional doctorate is awarded on the basis of the candidate having made a significant contribution to knowledge in the area of information technology and having demonstrated an understanding of the relationship to a wider field of knowledge. During candidature, you will work under the guidance of a principal supervisor and at least one associate supervisor appointed by the Research and Higher Degrees Committee on the recommendation of the School. Areas of research strength in which supervision is available in the School of Information Technology and Mathematical Sciences include: - Applied optimization - Distributed simulation - Knowledge management - Computer science education Career Opportunities Depending on the area of study completed, graduates of this course would normally expect to be employed in the higher education sector. It is also possible that employment opportunities may be open to you in government and Commercial Research Centres. RPL and Credit Transfer International students wishing to apply for RPL and Credit Transfer are required to provide syllabus of previous study undertaken at time of applying for course. Not all courses offer RPL and Credit Transfer. Assessment is based on a combination of your dissertation and your performance in the research projects and advanced study units. The different elements of the program should be thematically linked and would usually relate to the candidate's professional and specialist research interests.
