Assessment (Internat.) 

 

Competency based training is concerned with assisting people to gain specific competencies relevant to the purpose of their course of study. A range of assessment methods will be used to enable students to demonstrate competency, including folio, journal, assignment presentations.
 
Outline 

 

The Diploma of Visual Art 21885VIC replaces the Diploma of Arts (Visual Arts) and addresses the specific knowledge and skills required to undertake work as a visual artist who works independently or within specialised organisations.The qualification includes units of competency that address the skills and knowledge required by industry to encompass the 6 visual art specialisation areas. It also includes units within the qualification that address the business requirements, business promotion, drawing skills and research and analysis which are common to all visual art specialisations.
 
Career Opportunities 

 

An independent visual artist’s responsibilities may include:

 

- Producing work for exhibition or sale in commercial or public galleries, community spaces
or publication on the internet
- Taking part in community art projects
- Working as artists in residence
- Teaching or presenting at art schools, forums and conferences in visual art related areas
- Researching business opportunities
- Establishing legal requirements, managing finances and promoting their business

 

RPL and Credit Transfer 

 

International students wishing to apply for RPL and Credit Transfer are required to provide syllabus of previous study undertaken at time of applying for course. Not all courses offer RPL and Credit Transfer. Contact the International Student Programs office at international@ballarat.edu.au

 

Objectives 

 

Students can utilise both traditional and digital media for exploration of contemporary two and three dimensional art works. Students have access to studios equipped with specialised equipment in Painting, Sculpture and Photography. Library facilities are located at the SMB Lydiard Street campus.
 
Requirements 

 

To be eligible to receive the Diploma of Visual Art participants must successfully complete -
22 units consisting of:
• 9 Core units and
• All units from one stream specialisation and
• Additional units to a total of 22 from the elective or other specialisation units, with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 units from the stream specialisation units.

 

Nominal Hours of the course: 1205 - 1825
