Diploma of Food Science and Technology

• Duration: 2 Years
• Note: one year of study is equivalent to not less than 36 weeks of instruction.

• Entry Requirements: Successful completion of a science related subject at Year 12 level or equivalent English proficiency demonstrated by an IELTS score of 5.5 is essential Note: Students who successfully complete the Diploma will be given 1.25 years credit towards the Bachelor of Food Science and Technology at the University of Adelaide.

  Module based assessment used such as tests, practicals.
• Expected Employment Outcome Example: Develop new foods, improve existing food products and set standards for producing, packaging and marketing food. A Technologist can work in food, wine and beverage manufacturing and various state government departments that deal with the quality of processed food.
• Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.
• Skills Covered:
  Identifying the biochemical properties of food; performing microbiological tests pertaining to the food industry; planning and managing food product research and development; manufacturing, packaging and testing beverage products; manufacturing and processing edible fats and oils; manufacturing confectionery products; processing dairy products; plus electives.
