Diploma of Business Administration

The Diploma of Business Administration is an excellent introduction to business, as a stand-alone qualification or pathway for students who wish to undertake a university degree. The Diploma introduces the Australian university style of learning, and develops students’ skills in oral and written English, research, note taking, essay writing, report writing and oral presentation.

To qualify for the Diploma of Business Administration, you must complete and pass 12 subjects including credits. Four of these are foundation subjects and the other eight are 1st year university equivalent subjects.

Entry Points

Articulation to the Bachelor of Business

Students who satisfactorily complete the Diploma are guaranteed entry to the Bachelor of Business with up to eight subjects of advanced standing. The Diploma is awarded by La Trobe University and has three entry points.

There are three entry points onto the Diploma and they are determined by your academic qualifications.  Your entry point then determines the duration of your course.

Standard Entry – Four Semesters

The first two semesters of the Standard Entry program consist of the Standard Entry Foundation Studies program.  These are then followed by two semesters of 1st year university equivalent subjects.

To gain entry to this program, you must complete the appropriate academic course in your country or Australia.  Please see the entry table for details on academic entry requirements.

Accelerated Entry – Three Semesters

The Accelerated Entry diploma program achieves the same exit level as the Standard Entry program, but allows for a higher level at entry.  To gain entry students must have completed the appropriate academic course in their country or Australia.  Please see the entry table for details on academic entry requirements.

The program consists of the second semester of the Foundation Studies program, followed by two semesters of 1st year university equivalent subjects.

Accelerated Entry with Credit - Two Semesters

In some circumstances, students may be eligible for credit for the first semester of the Accelerated Entry program.
Eligible students must have completed Australian Year 12 and gained a sufficiently high mark. Entry is assessable on a case by case basis.
Alternatively, students who have passed Foundation Studies but did not gain a high enough average mark to gain entry to first year of the degree may join the diploma program at this point.

Diploma Subjects

Students who study the Diploma of Business Administration first complete the Foundation Studies subjects, unless they have been given entry with credit for these subjects.  Students studying the Standard Entry Diploma study the same subjects in semester one and two as students on the Standard Entry Foundation Studies course.  Students studying the Accelerated Entry Diploma study the same subjects in semester one as students on the Accelerated Entry Foundation Studies course.

University Equivalent Subjects

Over the two semesters where students study the university equivalent subjects, extra tutorial time is given.  Instead of a 2-hour lecture and 1-hour tutorial, Diploma students receive a 2-hour lecture and a 3-hour tutorial to assist in developing the skills required to study successfully at university level.
