Duration 1 year Note: one year of study is equivalent to not less than 36 weeks of instruction. This means satisfactory completion of Year 11 or equivalent. The ability to study in English demonstrated by an IELTS score of 5.5 is essential. Certificates and the Diploma in this area are designed to allow graduates to gain entry into the professional world of beauty therapy and cosmetics. The qualifications provide future beauty therapists and consultants with the skills, knowledge, attitudes and values to work successfully and with confidence in this industry. Many employment prospects exist for qualified beauty therapists. The Certificate IV and Diploma of Beauty Therapy provide graduates with the knowledge and skills to deliver a range of beauty treatments to clients. Career opportunities may include work as a nail technician (in a beauty salon or self employed); a make-up artist (in a beauty salon, department store or self employed); a retail cosmetic assistant (in a department store or pharmacy); and a beauty therapist (working in a beauty salon, managing a beauty salon or self employed). Work opportunities also exist in merchandising; sales promotion; health retreats; spa therapy; cruise ships; and gyms.

Skills Covered Advanced beauty; advising on beauty services; aromatherapy massage; assessing client's needs; facial treatments and advanced facial treatments; following OH&S procedures; lash and brow treatments; manicures and pedicure services; providing body treatments; providing temporary epilation; designing and applying make-up; coordinating work teams; flexology; manual lymphatic massage; provide permanent epilation; and aromatic chemistry.
