Course Aims

The Diploma in Nursing is intended for students who do not have a prior qualification in nursing or related discipline.  The course aims to further develop students' English reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in order to successfully enter and complete the Bachelor of Nursing.

It should be noted that the Diploma in Nursing is not intended as professionally qualifying award course in its own right.

The Diploma in Nursing has been designed with mixed-mode delivery. International students have the opportunity to study some subjects together with local Australian students.  They also benefit from closed classes in certain subjects for international students only, whereby lecturers can pay special attention to their study needs.

Students follow the same academic structure as other university students, undertaking four subjects per semester, eight subjects in total for the year.

Assessment

Assessment at Australian Catholic University may include a range of methods such as formal end of semester examinations, continuous assessment throughout the semester, written assignments, essays and field trips/projects. Students will be advised at the commencement of their studies as to what methods will be used.

Pathway Information

The Diploma in Nursing is designed to serve as an alternate entry point into the Bachelor of Nursing.

Students who do not qualify for direct entry into the Degree program may enter through the successful completion of the Diploma program.

When students continue onto the Bachelor of Nursing they will be granted 30 credit points towards their Degree studies.
