OVERVIEW

This Diploma of Information Technology (Networking) is for anyone wishing to be assured of a successful career in Computer Servicing, Network Administration, Systems Administration, Systems Integration, or VoIP services.

The program consists of a series of powerful industry certification training modules as well as practical training on how to plan and implement a business grade Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) solution.

COURSE SUBJECTS

The Diploma of Information Technology (Networking) course contains 6 subjects. Each subject is designed as a self-standing professional course, covering a specific IT subject in detail. Each subject consists of a specified number of hours, which may include lectures, tutorials, practical exercises, assignments, and directed private study.

SUN SOLARIS UNIX NETWORKING AND ADMINISTRATION
The Solaris OS delivers the security, manageability and performance that IT professionals need to increase service levels and decrease costs and risks; it’s the rock-solid foundation for solutions based on the Sun ONE software architecture. Offering unmatched levels of privacy, increased accountability and reduced risk of security violations - and proven effective in Government, Intelligence and Security agencies and gaining a foothold in Finance, Healthcare, Retail, and other industries - the Trusted Solaris Operating System (OS) provides built-in security on a commercial-grade OS. With the Trusted Solaris OS, users from the desktop to the data centre continue to reduce security risks and have higher confidence in the security of their networks. The Subject covers how to administer Sun Solaris systems and how to implement and maintain Sun Solaris networks.

CISCO CCNA
Cisco Systems is the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet. Cisco is recognized as an innovator in how business is conducted, pioneering the use of networks and the Internet to provide customer support, sell products, offer training and manage finances. The CCNA certification (Cisco Certified Network Associate) indicates a foundation in and apprentice knowledge of networking. CCNA certified professionals can install, configure, and operate LAN, WAN, and dial access services for small networks (100 nodes or fewer), including but not limited to use of these protocols: IP, IGRP, Serial, Frame Relay, IP RIP, VLANs, RIP, Ethernet, Access Lists.

PRIVACY COMPLIANCE
New privacy provisions in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (the Privacy Act) affecting private sector organisations came into effect on 21 December 2001. The new privacy provisions aim to ensure that organisations that hold information about people handle that information responsibly. They also give people some control over the way information about them is handled. The Subject deals with the key issues affecting IT professionals.

VOICE OVER INTERNET PROTOCOL (VOIP)
VoIP is currently the fastest growing segment of the Information Technology and Telecommunications industry and is predicted to be a key driver in the expansion of business network infrastructure and network services. Information Technology professionals with an understanding of how to implement VoIP solutions are highly in demand and well placed for an exciting and rewarding career in this dynamic sector. This subject will cover the installation and configuration of an open source converged telecommunications platform, designed to allow different types of IP telephony hardware, middleware, and software to interface with each other consistently. Students will gain hands on experience on VoIP technology that provides multiple layers, managing both TDM and packet voice at lower layers while offering a highly flexible platform for PBX and telephony applications, and at the same time can provide a full-featured server platform for predictive dialling, custom IVR, remote and central office PBX, and conferencing.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS PREREQUISITES

• Australian year 10 or equivalent. Eg. G.C.E. O LEVEL
• Certificate II In Information Technology
