DIPLOMA IN DENTAL TECHNOLOGY (DENTAL TECHNICIAN)
CAREER • Dental Technicians are a highly skilled member of the Dental Health Team, working in close cooperation with Dental Surgeons, Dental Specialists and Dental Auxiliary Staff. • The aim is to provide patients with high quality replacements for their missing or damaged teeth. • The Profession of Dental Technician is similar to precision mechanics and requires artistic skills in colour, form and aesthetics. The majority of Dental Technicians work in the private sector, either self-employed (Business Owner) or as employees. A Dental Technician produces crowns, bridges and removable prosthesis at the request of Dentists and in close consultation with them. The Dental Technician works in a Dental Laboratory and meets patients only on invitation by the Dentist. • The discipline of Dental Technology is undergoing exciting and extensive technical development, especially involving CAD/CAM technology and implant treatment. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS • Completion of year 10 with an average of 3.5 in four learning areas including English and Maths or equivalent. • Provision for enrolment will be accepted where length, breadth and depth of experience and or other qualifications are indicative of success in the programme. • Applicants without these formal requirements can establish an interview with the college for the advice on further learning pathways to enter the programme. • English proficiency BELTS 5.5 or TOEFL 5.3 or ISLPR 2+ • Training available to Local and International students - different delivery modes and costs associated. PROGRAMME DURATION Full-Time 4 semesters - 2 years, Involves 92 Teaching weeks
