Community Services Work (Certificate III to Certificate IV)These courses train students in working effectively with individuals and groups, in residential and community settings. They learn how to identify their needs and plan and develop appropriate services to meet those needs. Qualifications Available in this Program (depending on your entry & exit points)
General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites All students enter at Certificate III level. Entry into the Certificate III requires the equivalent of Australian Year 10 with passes in English. Special Requirements > A current Senior First Aid Certificate is required before undertaking supervised work placement. Students can complete a senior first aid course on campus - which must be finished in the first 6 weeks. > A Federal Police Clearance is required prior to work placement and employment in most community services agencies. Further details on these requirements will be provided at the College when you start. What You'll Learn in Each Course The Certificate III provides students with the training to work effectively with individuals and groups, in residential and community settings, to identify their needs and plan and develop appropriate services to meet those needs. Students learn about the community services sector including mental health, alcohol and other drug services, and domestic violence services. The Certificate IV delivers training to develop services and programs to meet identified needs within the community. Students learn skills in advanced communication, group work, training, community information provision, and program development. They learn how to design and deliver programs that are accessible and enhance community participation. Work Experience, Activities & Events As part of this course students undertake a supervised work placement where they are able to apply the skills and knowledge learnt. These work placements are an important part of these courses and last at least 3 full weeks. Career Outcomes Depending on the stage of completion, graduates can gain employment in support/volunteer roles in welfare/community centres, outreach programs, women’s or youth refuges and employment support services or to become a home care worker. THey can also become a community/welfare support worker, outreach officer, family support worker and domestic violence worker. Further Study & University Options Studies at TAFE WA can be continued through to the Diploma of Community Welfare Work (see the Study Pathway diagram above).
