Commercial Cookery

Qualifying has never been as accessible or flexible. Today you are able to gain your Trade Chef Qualification by completing one of the following pathways:

1) Chef Pre-Apprenticeship - Following completion of the Certificate II in Hospitality (Kitchen Operations) we offer Australian Residents an employment placement as an indentured apprentice, and an opportunity to complete the remainder of the Trade Cookery qualification under the Apprenticeship pathway.

Studies completed during the Certificate II in Hospitality (Kitchen Operations) will be credited towards your apprenticeship, usually reducing the time taken to complete the Trade Cookery qualification and the tuition costs associated with this training.

2) For all other students including International students studying on a student visa, following completion of the Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) and completion of the required industry experience students may apply for their trade qualification through the Trade Skills Recognition (TSR) Process.

The benefits of this pathway are;

* you will have already completed all of the off-the-job training required of the Trade Cookery Certificate, this assists you in gaining meaningful full time employment to achieve the necessary “On the Job” experience required for you to apply for TSR for Cooks or the Trade Test.

* you gain significant and all important experience during your employment while you study enabling you to achieve full time employment based on this experience.

Please note, the Australian School of Tourism and Hotel Management is approved by the Training Accreditation Council of Western Australia to provide Trade Skills Recognition Services. This process supports applicants who have significant experience and /or have completed the Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) and who have the necessary employment experience.

3) For Australian resident students only - Enrolling as an apprentice and completing the Trade Cookery Apprenticeship. This option is available to Australian permanent residents only who are indentured as an apprentice. The employer and apprentice will select the Australian School of Tourism and Hotel Management to be the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) through which their Trade Qualification is completed. This process is subsidised by the Western Australian Department of Education and Training.
