Childrens Services (Certificate III & Diploma)

This course trains students to prepare patients for oral examination and assist during dental procedures. They learn how to take and process x-rays using the principles of radiation biology and correct protection procedures. Students also learn skills in the administration of a dental practice, general dental procedures, undertaking infection control, applying basic first aid, maintaining equipment and storing dental materials.

Students are required to have a medical clearance (including Hepatitis B vaccination and tuberculosis clearance) and a Federal Police Clearance.*
This course requires a uniform to be worn which has a cost of around A$120. Students will also require navy pants and rubber soled shoes.
Included in this course is 150 hours of General Anaesthesia and Conscious Training. Students will also receive the Certificate IV in Dental Assisting - Assistance During General Anaesthesia & Conscious Sedation.

  • Certificate IV in Dental Assisting - Radiography
  • Certificate IV in Dental Assisting - Assistance During General Anaesthesia & Conscious Sedation

General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites

Entry into this course requires the equivalent of Australian Year 11 with passes in English and Science.


Special Requirements

What You'll Learn in Each Course

This program is delivered at the Oral Health Centre of Western Australia (OHCWA) in Nedlands which has modern facilities. Students benefit significantly from the interaction with dental professionals and students from UWA and Curtin University programs.


Work Experience, Activities & Events

Students are also able to gain mentored experience in modern simulated and live clinics before undertaking fieldwork placement in private practice.


Career Outcomes

Graduates can become a dental clinic assistant or dental receptionist in public or private dental clinics - in general or specialist practice.


Further Study & University Options

Graduates can continue further studies in Dental Hygiene at Curtin University, subject to meeting the University entrance requirements.
