Certificate IV in Tourism (Guiding)
- Duration: 40 Weeks
- Note: one year of study is equivalent to not less than 36 weeks of instruction.
- Course Type: Training Package Qualification
- Entry Requirements: Satisfactory completion of Year 11 or equivalent overseas qualification, is regarded as the minimum academic requirement for entry. English proficiency - an IELTS score of 5.5 is essential.
- Assessment Method: Units
Competency based training methodology for all units within Trainin Packages.
- Expected Employment Outcome Example: TAFE SA certificate qualifications in this area provide opportunities to work as a travel consultant; visitor information officer; airline customer sales consultant; tour wholesaler; conference coordinator; tour coordinator; or tour guide. Diploma courses provide graduates with management level skills which offer opportunities in marketing and product development, and tourism and general operations.
- Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.
- Skills Covered:
Working with colleagues and customers; working in a socially diverse environment; following OHS and security procedures; developing and updating tourism industry knowledge; working as a guide; coordinating and operating a tour; leading tour groups; preparing and presenting tour commentaries or activities; providing first aid; and developing and maintaining the general knowledge required by guides.
