Certificate IV in Hairdressing

Program description
The Certificate IV in Hairdressing is a progression from the Certificate III in Hairdressing qualification. Once you have successfully completed the Certificate III in Hairdressing qualification you can continue your hairdressing studies by completing the Certificate IV in Hairdressing qualification. This qualification has been designed to expand the development of the complex technical skills and knowledge of hairdressing practitioners. Successful completion of the Certificate IV in Hairdressing qualification may include students being able to be employed as a highly skilled hairdresser, working as part of a salon team or coordinating a salon team; a technical adviser with a hairdressing product company; or independently as a freelance session stylist. The functions of the Certificate IV in Hairdressing include self-directed application of a broad range of knowledge and skills and the provision of technical leadership, training and support to colleagues. A hairdresser at this level may provide specialist services, including haircutting, hair design, hair colouring, complex colour correction and chemical reformation.
Our Hairdressing team is made up of 8 highly skilled individuals who have many years of both Hairdressing and teaching experience. Our salons are clean, modern, air-conditioned and you will use safe up to date equipment in accordance with safe work practices. We have a large client base which enables you to master the skills of hairdressing on a variety of clients in 3 fully equipped salons. This in turns provides you with a realistic training environment. The fees include all your material costs and learning resources. You will receive your own hairdressing tools and headblocks to practice your skills on. There are no hidden costs. In this course you will study the theoretical components of hairdressing, work in teams, perform practical tasks on headblocks, and perform the entire range of skills on clients in a salon situation. Entry requirements
English Proficiency: IELTS 5.5 (with no individual band less than 5.0), AND
Completion of Certificate III in Hairdressing.

The Southern Queensland Institute is located in the agriculturally rich southern region of the state of Queensland, which is the second largest State (province) in Australia. The Institute has its directorate in the city of Toowoomba, which is just 1.5 hours drive from Brisbane (2 hours from the Airport). International students have access to a variety of support staff, for example: Course Coordinators, Student Counsellors, Learning Support Teachers and Library Officers. Services to international students include course enquiries, orientation programs, liaison with teachers, learning support and counselling staff. The Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE is committed to providing a quality educational experience in a totally supportive environment. Facilities that the Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE offers include Hair & Beauty Salons, Restaurant, computers and other learning resources in the library.

Teaching methods may combine face-to-face delivery, self-study and project work. Students may be required to complete work experience and/or field trips to be eligible for the program award. The majority of classes are conducted in air-conditioned venues, with access to training environments in specialised areas. Students may be required to sit for both open and closed book examinations and in some cases may be required to perform skills tests and/or oral presentations. Individual or group project work may also be used to determine competency. Other assistance for International students range from Program Information to Admission Procedures, Entry Requirements, Overseas Student Health Cover, public transport information and can refer students to other support services within and outside the Institute.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning is available where an applicant may have attained skills and knowledge equivalent to specific competencies through previous training, work experience or life experiences.
SQIT will recognise any AQF Qualification and/or Statement of Attainment issued by any other Registered Training Organisation. Credit Transfer may give you advanced standing (exemption) for parts of the course that you have successfully completed through Secondary School, Other Registered Training Providers of other TAFE courses.
