Certificate IV in Business

A Business course at Holmes Institute provides students with a solid grounding in general business skills. The Certificate IV in Business provides students with the knowledge and practical skills required to perform the role of an employee who can use well-developed skills and have a broad knowledge base in a wide variety of contexts. On completion of the course students will be able to analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources and may provide leadership and guidance to others. Areas of study covered include communication skills, financial numeracy, as well as the processing of business information, and the delivery information and services to customers. Workplace safety procedures are also an important part of this course. At the end of the course, students will be competent to apply for employment as receptionists, junior secretaries, administrative assistants and word processor operators. Successful completion of the course or individual units enables students to apply for credit transfers and/or exemptions in other qualifications at Holmes or at other institutions. Successful completion of the course will allow students entry into the Diploma of Management, Diploma of Marketing or the Diploma of International Business. Course Structure
The course is delivered over 20 tuition weeks. Students who withdraw early from the course will receive a statement of attainment for the units they have completed. Students will complete four blocks of five weeks each and can expect to attend classes for an average of 20 hours per week. Assessment
Assessment is continuous throughout the course using a range of assessment tools which include workplace simulation exercises, class activities, assignments, case studies, practical demonstrations, quizzes and tests. Students must attempt all assessment items and are required to demonstrate competency in all aspects of the course. Entry Requirements
There is no mandatory requirement for entry to this qualification. The expectation is that successful applicants will have completed at least the equivalent of Year 11 High School. Advanced Standing: Students who have completed relevant studies or have experience which may be deemed equivalent to the course may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Application can be made with the initial application or can be made within two weeks of the course commencement. International Students: Entry into the program requires an English level equivalent to IELTS 5.5 or Upper Intermediate at a Holmes English Language Centre. Students on a student visa MUST be enrolled in a full-time course.
