Certificate II in Hospitality (Operations)
An introduction to kitchen operations concentrating on Professional cookery skills that can be used in all commercial catering operations.
English Proficiency: IELTS 5.5 (with no individual band less than 5.0), AND
Must have completed Year 12 or equivalent with a Sound Achievement in English and Mathematics. or Non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies are used to determine entry. or Successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework Certificate III or higher in any area of study requiring formal written communication and numeracy skills.

The Southern Queensland Institute is located in the agriculturally rich southern region of the state of Queensland, which is the second largest State (province) in Australia. Queensland has a strong tradition in providing high quality standards of education and training to both Australian and International students. The Institute has its directorate in the city of Toowoomba, which is just 1.5 hours drive from Brisbane (2 hours from the Airport). The Southern Queensland Institute has major campuses in Toowoomba, Roma, Warwick and Kingaroy, the four main centres throughout the region, with smaller campuses at Dalby, Stanthorpe, Chinchilla, Charleville and Cherbourg.
International students have access to a variety of support staff, for example: Course Coordinators, Student Counsellors, Learning Support Teachers and Library Officers. Services to international students include course enquiries, orientation programs, liaison with teachers, learning support and counselling staff. The Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE is committed to providing a quality educational experience in a totally supportive environment. Facilities that the Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE offers include Hair & Beauty Salons, Restaurant, computers and other learning resources in the library.
Teaching methods may combine face-to-face delivery, self-study and project work. Students may be required to complete work experience and/or field trips to be eligible for the program award. The majority of classes are conducted in air-conditioned venues, with access to training environments in specialised areas. Students may be required to sit for both open and closed book examinations and in some cases may be required to perform skills tests and/or oral presentations. Individual or group project work may also be used to determine competency. Other assistance for International students range from Program Information to Admission Procedures, Entry Requirements, Overseas Student Health Cover, public transport information and can refer students to other support services within and outside the Institute.
Full time: 18 weeks
If all the competencies are successfully assessed, they may be accredited towards a Diploma of Hospitality.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning is available where an applicant may have attained skills and knowledge equivalent to specific competencies through previous training, work experience or life experiences.
SQIT will recognise any AQF Qualification and/or Statement of Attainment issued by any other Registered Training Organisation. Credit Transfer may give you advanced standing (exemption) for parts of the course that you have successfully completed through Secondary School, Other Registered Training Providers of other TAFE courses.
