Business (Certificate II to Diploma)

These courses provide the broad range of skills and knowledge needed to work in office and business environments. Areas covered include administration, record keeping, marketing, management and business development. Students learn skills in how to prepare accounts, manage budgets, plan and control projects, develop teams and how to recruit, select and induct new staff into an organisation.

Completion of the Diploma of Business at West Coast TAFE (Joondalup) will allow students to enter one of several Bachelor degrees at Edith Cowan University*

General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites

Entry into the Certificate III requires the equivalent of Australian Year 10 with passes in English. Entry at Certificate IV level requires the equivalent of Australian Year 12 with passes in English. The Cert II entry is only for those students who need a foundational starting point.


What You'll Learn in Each Course

The Certificate II provides a good introduction into the basic principles of business such as customer service, computing, accounts and record keeping

The Certificate III helps develop the students practical skills and knowledge to undertake a range of administrative tasks in an office environment, including customer service, computing, accounts and record keeping. Students learn skills to process manual or computerised accounts, process the payroll, produce business documents and create and use databases and spreadsheets.

The Diploma further develops the practical skills and knowledge in a number of functional areas of an organisation, including administration, recordkeeping, marketing, human resources, management and business development. Students learn skills in how to prepare basic accounts, manage budgets, plan and control projects and manage and develop teams. They will also learn skills to recruit, select and induct people into an organisation and provide a safe work environment.


Work Experience, Activities & Events

At Central TAFE, completion of this program is achieved by participating in the Eat-Central Practice Firm. Students get the opportunity to trade with other Practice Firms around the State and really find out what it is like to work as an administrator within an organisation.


Career Outcomes

Depending upon the stage of completion, graduates of this program can gain employment as administration clerk, customer service officer, accounts clerk, supervisor, front line manager or trainee manager.


Further Study & University Options

Completion of the Diploma of Business at West Coast TAFE (Joondalup) will allow students to enter one of the following Bachelor degrees at Edith Cowan University with up to 6 unit exemptions - Business, Social Sciences (Leisure Management), Social Sciences (Sport Management), Tourism Management, Hospitality Management, e-Commerce, e-Business, Business (Hospitality, Wine, Tourism and Regional Enterprise).

Successful completion of the Diploma at other College's may allow students to continue further studies at university in related subjects. Please contact your specific university of interest for more details on entry.
