Building Design & Technology (Cert IV & Diploma)
Program Details Provides the skills to prepare drawings estimates and plans and liaise with architects, builders and contractors of residential and commercial buildings. Students learn about design, site surveys, construction technology, building materials and 2D and 3D computer aided design. They also learn about project administration, digital presentation and commercial working drawings. Qualifications Available in this Program (depending on your entry & exit points)

Program Components & Pathway
This program can include multiple courses and different entry and exit points providing students the flexibility to begin at the most suitable stage and continue studying till they reach their desired outcome.
General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites
Entry at Certificate IV level requires the equivalent of Australian Year 11 with passes in English & Maths or completion of the Certificate III in Drafting - Civil & Structural Engineering
What You'll Learn in Each Course
This program provides trains students to apply their creativity to the development, presentation and documentation of multiple solutions to residential, industrial and commercial buildings. The Certificate IV provides the skills to prepare drawings, estimates and plans and liaise with architects, builders and contractors of residential buildings. Students learn how to present and document building projects using both manual and computer aided drafting techniques, along with building materials, construction methods and the social and environmental aspects of residential construction projects. This course provides the knowledge and practical skills to produce documentation suitable for gaining a building permit and for the on site construction of Class 1 and 10 Private Residential Housing.
The Diploma provides students with the skills to develop, present and document a range of design solutions for residential, industrial and commercial buildings. Students learn about design, site surveys, construction technology, building materials and 2D and 3D computer aided design (CAD). They also learn about project administration, digital presentation and commercial working drawings.
Work Experience, Activities & Events
As part of this qualification students undertake a supervised work placement where they are able to apply the skills and knowledge learnt.
Career Outcomes
Depending on the stage of completion, graduates can become an architectural draftsperson or gain employment as drafters of commercial and residential projects with Architects, Builders, Building Designers or Project Administrators.
Further Study & University Options
Successful completion of the Diploma will allow students to enter the Bachelor of Applied Science (Architectural Science) at Curtin university with up to 12 months of credit.
