Overview Description: JCU’s Law program provides students with the foundation law subjects, along with an exciting and broad-ranging elective program. Law graduates benefit from a practical approach and an understanding of the complexities of modern society. Honours The purpose of the Honours Program in the School of Law is to provide the necessary research opportunities and experience for those students who anticipate going on to apply for enrolment in higher research degrees or who seek to enhance their research competence. Entry to the Honours program is restricted to students with an OGPA of 5 and above and is by invitation only. Honours graduates fall within the top 15-20% of the graduating class. A candidate for the joint degree with Honours in Law must include LA4026:03 Research Dissertation A or LA4047:03 Research Dissertation B Part 1 of 2 and LA4048:03 Research Dissertation B Part 2 of 2 as part of the approved course of study.
Students who intend to complete honours in Social Work must complete WS3513:03 at level 3 and then the following: WS4005:03 Social Inquiry Analysis WS4504:09 Field Education 2 WS4508:03 Social Work Honours Thesis (Part 1 of 2) WS4509:03 Social Work Honours Thesis (Part 2 of 2) WS4514:03 Theories for Social Work Practice
Plus 3 credit points from the following: WS4503:03 Social Work and Mental Health WS4511:03 Professional Development for Social Work Practice Career Opportunities Law graduates can find work in private practice, corporations, government and non-government agencies in a wide variety of areas: - government agencies in a wide variety of areas - general legal practice - solicitor or barrister - business and commercial law - environmental law - conveyancing and property law - criminal law - industrial law - taxation law Professional Accreditation This course is an approved qualification for admission to practice law in Queensland. Students wishing to practice should obtain further information from the Barristers’ and Solicitors’ Admission Boards.
