Bachelor of ScienceProgram summary Program overview The honours degree offers you the opportunity to continue your undergraduate studies at a higher level, specialising in your area of interest. Completing an honours degree develops your ability to design and complete a research project relatively independently within a given time frame. This style of independent learning can give you an advantage when entering the workforce. An honours degree is also the main pathway to further postgraduate study, particularly study that is research-focused. This program is designed for students who wish to undertake higher degree studies in one of the following areas:
You must have completed a Bachelor of Science, or a related degree from a recognised higher education institution, with at least eight courses in the area of study of your thesis topic. A high level of achievement in the intended area of study must be demonstrated. These are minimum requirements and do not guarantee entry. Importantly, enrolment is contingent upon the Faculty's capacity to provide appropriate supervision. Honours disciplines Honours is offered in the following areas:
Program structure The Honours program is as follows: -24 unit coursework component consisting of 2 x 12 unit courses: RES401 Research Methods. Students will be assessed on the submission of a research proposal and delivery of an oral presentation. ADR401 Advanced Discipline Readings. Students will be assessed on the submission of a literature review. -72 unit thesis component (dissertation). Dissertation. Students will be assessed on the submission of a dissertation. Program requirements and notes Dissertation This is a research project conducted over the full year of enrolment, comprising a dissertation, accompanied by an exegesis, as described in guidelines provided to students at the beginning of their enrolment. Supervision and research A staff member with relevant research interests and expertise supervises you. You attend the Faculty's Research Colloquium and relevant research thesis seminars with other research students. You are required to complete at least two oral presentations on your research project. Typically, your first oral presentation occurs after the formulation of your research project while your second presentation is based on your project outcomes.
