Overview Description: Physiotherapists are health professional whose primary focus is the restoration of function to improve quality of life. They assess and diagnose problems with human movement, then plan and administer treatment programs to restore function or minimise dysfunction after sickness or injury. Physiotherapists use a combination of manual therapy, movement training, electrical processes and education. For patients recovering from serious injury or disability, the physiotherapist is a vital health professional whose treatment can mean the difference between dependence and independence. Duration: 4 years full-time Mode: On campus (Internal), full time Workload: Normal workload expectations are a minimum of 10 hours per week for every subject, including class contact hours, preparation and time spent on assessment tasks. Career Opportunities
Physiotherapy is a growing profession and in high demand, particularly in rural and remote areas and in Indigenous communities. Physiotherapists can work in a variety of settings including: hospitals, rehabilitation units, community health centres, schools, research, organisational/occupational health units, aged care services, private practice, sports medicine clinics. Professional Accreditation JCU’s Bachelor of Physiotherapy will prepare graduates as generalist physiotherapists in accordance with the physiotherapy profession’s scope of practice. The School of Public Health, Tropical Medicine and Rehabilitation Sciences is undergoing accreditation with the Australian Physiotherapy Council (APC).
