Outline 

The Bachelor of Nursing course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to pursue a career in nursing. The course is influenced by five important themes: Person, Environment, Health, Nursing and Knowledge.

These themes are based upon the type of health care activities with which nurses are involved (health promotion, health maintenance and health restoration); and the nature of the clients for whom nurses care (individuals, families and communities).

Career Opportunities 

This course opens many doors. The qualification will allow you to work in hospitals, community health care centres, district nursing, aged care facilities, schools, homes, government agencies, industries, educational institutions. The qualification is recognised overseas and suits those who wish to travel and work in other countries.
 
RPL and Credit Transfer 

International students wishing to apply for RPL and Credit Transfer are required to provide syllabus of previous study undertaken at time of applying for course. Not all courses offer RPL and Credit Transfer. Contact the International Student Programs office at international@ballarat.edu.au

Credit transfer and/or RPL is granted on an individual basis. Applicants are reminded that they must provide a certified original syllabus when applying for credit exemptions. 
Objectives 

Successful completion of this course will give you the foundation, knowledge and skills to:
Provide comprehensive nursing care as a beginning nurse in a variety of health care settings to achieve Australian Nursing & Midwifery Council (ANMC) competencies prescribed for safe nursing practice;
Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge in the theory and practice of nursing;
Develop critical reasoning, reflection and problem-solving skills;
Accept responsibility and be accountable for professional practice as articulated in the ANMC Code of Ethics for nurses in Australia;
Engage in collaborative care with clients and recognise the broad range of needs and expectations of clients;
Act as an ethical, socially responsible and sensitive practitioner and citizen;
Demonstrate effective teamwork, leadership and management skills;
Possess a commitment to lifelong learning and development of skill for independent learning;
Assume responsibility for the development of the discipline and profession of nursing.

Requirements 

The course contains 28 units and all units are compulsory. Most units are taught by staff from the School of Nursing; however, the School of Behavioural and Social Sciences and Humanities as well as the School of Human Movement and Sport Sciences also contribute to the teaching of the program. All units in the Course adopt a flexible delivery mode, utilising a blended learning approach. Blended learning is a combination of traditional learning approaches (ie. lectures, tutorials and laboratories) and online web based technologies (ie. facilitated online learning and podcasting). The clinical education component of the program, which accounts for approximately 50% of course hours, is conducted in a wide variety of local and regional health care facilities. Teaching methods employed include lectures, tutorials, learning projects, individual and small group activities and class presentations. All students are expected to travel throughout Victoria to undertake clinical education as part of the course. Associated travel and acommodation arrangements and costs are borne by the student.
