An Honours degree is usually essential for entry to research higher degrees. The Faculty also offers a wide range of postgraduate study opportunities.

Career Opportunities

Graduates work as researchers, writers, reporters or presenters for print and electronic media, businesses, community and government organisations, producing information, images and/or sounds for: general news and current affairs issues and developments in the arts, science, finance, sport, music and other specialist areas, feature stories, interactive multimedia, documentaries, advertising, and PR campaigns.

Practical Experience

JCU's Journalism students are encouraged to be industry-ready and industryexperienced well before they graduate. The Journalism Internship program opens the way for our third-year students to work as budding professionals in media industries during their final year of study and to develop a portfolio of published and/or broadcastmaterial. Interns spend part of a semester in a newspaper, radio or television newsroom where they polish their writing skills, work as part of a team of journalists and experience the real-world conditions of industry.

Professional Recognition

Students and graduates can apply to join the Media and Entertainment Arts Alliance, which incorporates the Australian Journalists Association.

Special Facilities

JCU's media training facilities include print production newsrooms, radio editing suites with broadcast capability, and digital video editing equipment.
