Bachelor of Information Technology

About the Course
This course includes specialisations in a range of fields from business-oriented, information systems through the more technical areas in network engineering and systems to the creative areas of web and software development. Students develop an understanding of the underlying principles and applications of IT which will enable them to adapt to future changes in the field as IT professionals. This course recognises the importance that employers place on people skills and management processes, therefore students will also learn to be problem solvers, decision makers, good communicators and team players.

Career opportunities exist in the areas of information systems and management, web design and development, networking, application development and systems. Students will also have the opportunity to complete professional qualifications from Cisco or Microsoft.

Course Structure
The course consists of 24 units. After completing a common core students choose one or more specialisations from Information Systems, Web Design or Networking and Systems. This course can be taken externally by distance learning.

A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 240 credit points.

Of the total 240 credit points:
-Not more than 100 credit points may be taken from 100 level units
-A minimum of 40 credit points must be taken from 300 level units
-Not more than 30 credit points shall be included with a grade of "PT" or "PC" or "PS"

Professional Recognition

Graduates are eligible for membership of the Australian Computer Society.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this course may seek career opportunities in the areas of information systems and management, web design and development, data communications and programming. Students will also have the opportunity to complete professional qualifications from Cisco or Microsoft.
