Outline 
The four-year Bachelor of Education course offers you the choice of training to be either a primary school teacher (P-6), or a primary and middle years teacher (P-10). The course includes core studies in the areas of Education, Curriculum, and Professional Practice, as well as studies from a sequence/s of discipline-specific units. The Bachelor of Education course will prepare you for the new and broader roles expected of professional educators, now and into the future.
 
Career Opportunities  
 The Bachelor of Education course qualifies you to teach students in the primary years (P-6), or primary and middle years of schooling (P-10).
 
RPL and Credit Transfer 
International students wishing to apply for RPL and Credit Transfer are required to provide syllabus of previous study undertaken at time of applying for course. Not all courses offer RPL and Credit Transfer. Contact the International Student Programs office at international@ballarat.edu.au
 
Objectives 
Successful completion of this course will give you the foundation, knowledge and skills to:
- Understand the learning needs of students as individuals and in groups, and know how to provide these students with enriching, stimulating and motivating learning environments that will cater for their diverse needs
- Understand and appreciate the broader contexts of education and other professional environments, and be aware of the complex issues associated with communities, schools, families and individuals
- Understand the curriculum requirements of schools, and be innovative and enterprising in creating learning environments
- Possess an understanding of yourself as a life-long learner within the teaching profession
Requirements 
The course consists of a 6-unit sequence (P-6) or 2 x 4 unit sequence (P-10). Sequences may be selected from the following:
- P-6 and P-10 students: Literature; Mathematics; General Science; Computers; Performing Arts; Visual Arts; History; Sociology & Cultural studies.
- P-6 students only: Japanese; Psychology and Health and Physical Education.
- P-10 students only: Health
Note that for P-10 students, the two discipline sequences undertaken will determine secondary teaching areas.

Application Method 

 

International students currently studying VCE in Victoria (Australia) are required to apply through VTAC. All other international students applying for undergraduate and postgraduate coursework degrees are required to apply through the University of Ballarat's International Student Programs office. All international students applying for Higher Degrees by Research are required to apply through the Research & Graduate Studies Office.
 
Applicants to this course should download the Confidential Student Report Form available at .www.ballarat.edu.au/ard/bssh/courses.shtml and ask two academic staff members who you know well to complete this form and return to the Post Graduate Co-Ordinator, School of Behavioural & Social Sciences & Humanities by 10 November, 2007.
