Bachelor of Education (Secondary) (Physical Education)Overview Description: This course places strong emphasis on interpersonal communication, planning, organisation and management, and the study of discipline areas such as fitness assessment and sport and exercise nutrition, giving graduates the opportunity for employment in the health and recreation sector. Human movement studies at JCU are offered under a cooperative program between JCU's School of Education and the Sport and Exercise Science Institute. The course brings together the study of human movement, sport science and teaching.
o Credit points: Represent the combined value of individual subjects in a degree. One subject usually constitutes three credit points. ^ Not all subjects are available in Cairns.

Teaching is a portable qualification and teachers are in demand throughout Australia and overseas. Many JCU graduates have taken the opportunity to travel and teach in Europe, Asia and North America. Other career opportunities exist including: recreational planning and health promotion fitness assessment and coaching management of sporting organisations, venues or events Practical Experience An integral part of becoming a teacher at JCU is gaining practical experience. Practical teaching commences in first year at a range of northern Queensland schools. Students must obtain a 'Blue Card' (refer additional course requirements) before commencing professional experience. Professional Recognition Successful JCU graduates can register with the Queensland College of Teachers.
