Bachelor of Commerce
About the Course
This vocationally orientated and student centred course provides students with the career and professional skills needed in a rapidly changing business environment. It allows for flexibility of study and prepares students for careers in a variety of business fields. In addition, communication, presentation and problem-solving skills are emphasised.
This course meets the needs of various professional bodies and the community. Students have a wide choice of units based upon their personal and career interests.
After completing the equivalent of one year full time study, students will have the option of transferring into the Bachelor of Accounting, which directly addresses the requirements for membership of CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. Alternatively students may select the appropriate units for professional body membership within the Bachelor of Commerce.
Course Structure
The course consists of common units, core units, specialist electives and general electives. Specialisations may be available in Accounting, Economics, Human Resources, Management, Marketing and Organisational Informatics.
A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 240 credit points.
Professional Recognition
Completion of certain specialisations and the appropriate selection of elective units will allow a person to obtain membership of a variety of professional bodies including CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA)and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants of the UK (ACCA).
Career Opportunities
Graduates can expect career opportunities in a range of jobs in public and private sector corporations, banking and financial institutions, consultancy companies and government departments, such as, accounting, taxation, auditing, financial planning, production management, sales and retail, marketing officers, organisational managers, HR advisors, PR advisors, information managers.
