Bachelor of Business (Sports and Event Management)

Overview

Description:
Sports, events and entertainment are multi-billion dollar industries, and are amongst the fastest growing sectors in terms of scale, sophistication and linkages with key areas of the economy. The increasing commercialisation and professionalism of sports and events is creating a variety of exciting new management opportunities. The Bachelor of Business (Sports and Events Management) is a strong industry- based course designed to provide graduates with both the theoretical knowledge and practical management skills required to pursue a career in sports and events management. This innovative program is suitable for individuals interested in the operational, supervisory, middle and senior levels of sports and events management.

At the international and national scale, sports and events include large-scale activities such as the Olympics, racing, competitive sports such as the soccer and cricket world cup events, and community and cultural events such as the Rio Carnivale, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and the Tamworth Country Music Festival. Involvement and career opportunities in sports and events cascade down from these elite and major events to the mass markets of participation, fitness, health, lifestyle, fashion, entertainment, arts and culture and retailing. Sport, health, fitness, arts, culture, travel and entertainment have become increasingly intermeshed.

A variety of sports and events, corporate events and community events and festivals occur at the state and local levels creating further employment opportunities with sports teams, sports stadiums and facilities, local businesses and councils and events management companies. In addition a number of non-profit organisations are increasingly involved in events as major fund raising and public awareness strategies.

This program includes foundation business subjects which are complimented by specialist topics in sports management, conference and events management, club and gaming management, public relations, negotiation, service quality management and sport and entertainment law. Studies include a broad range of sports and events organisations, emphasising sponsorship, employment, safety and crowd control, venue selection and administration.
