Overview

Description:
 The Hospitality industry encompasses areas as diverse as hotels, resorts, restaurants, clubs, casinos, conference venues and cruise ships. Hospitality studies at JCU have been designed to provide students with the knowledge and understanding of fundamental business principles in relation to the hospitality industry. It is an integrated course consisting of a core set of subjects supported by an industry practicum to refine practical skills for the hospitality sector. This is available with a range of tourism and hospitality organisations in Cairns. The course is offered by JCU in Cairns, one of Australia’s most popular international tourist destinations. Students will be equipped with the theoretical and practical skills to succeed as managers in the fast growing and exciting hospitality industry, not only in Australia, but internationally.


The course includes foundation subjects in the areas of business, leisure and society, accounting for decision making, economics, data analysis, customer experience, management and personal professional skills. These subjects are then complemented by specialist topics in service operations and quality management, club and gaming management, and hospitality and resort marketing and management.


The Bachelor of Business offers choice and flexibility, with the option to combine Sports and Events Management with a second major from Accounting, Economic and Regional Development, Financial Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Management and Entrepreneurship, Tourism Management, Business Law and Communication Design. Study in non-business disciplines is available to cater for individual interests or a specialist career goal.

Honours

An Honours program is available for those students who demonstrate high academic performance. Honours consists of an extra year of study and the development of a personal research project and thesis. An Honours degree is usually essential for entry to research higher degrees. JCU's School of Business also offers a wide range of postgraduate study opportunities and has an active research program.
