Description:
 Now is an exciting time to consider a career in accounting. Recent large corporate collapses have had an enormous impact on the business world, and brought into sharp focus the role of the accountant. In this world of global business, business structures have changed, the use of technology has increased and the work of accountants has now grown to incorporate exciting areas such as e-commerce and environmental accounting in addition to providing key financial information to enable both public and private organisations to plan and make effective decisions.

This program, formerly offered as the Bachelor of Commerce, is for students wishing to become professionally qualified accountants. It is fully accredited with the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAA) and CPA Australia and upon graduation will allow you to be eligible for membership of these professional bodies. It also provides you with the opportunity to enter commercial industry and business by developing the knowledge and skill base required by modern business.

The course includes foundation subjects in the areas of accounting, economics, data analysis, customer experience, business law, business information systems, management and personal professional skills. These subjects are then complemented by specialist topics in strategic resource management, business modeling, company accounting, financial management, auditing, business law, taxation, contemporary accounting issues and performance management and control.

The Bachelor of Business offers choice and flexibility, with the option to combine Sports and Events Management with a second major from Economic and Regional Development, Financial Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Management and Entrepreneurship, Tourism Management, Business Law and Communication Design. Study in non-business disciplines is available to cater for individual interests or a specialist career goal.

Honours

An Honours program is available for those students who demonstrate high academic performance. Honours consists of an extra year of study and the development of a personal research project and thesis. An Honours degree is usually essential for entry to research higher degrees. JCU's School of Business also offers a wide range of postgraduate study opportunities and has an active research program.
